project 1 - context
History
For my history portion of my project, I put my history on a separate page, I numbered my lines that I could put history with. I numbered my lines for my history on another page and then out my history there. the history and ELA need each other or it won't make any sense for what its about. The history portion is based off of direct history I found in books and online. Gloria Florence
1. During the 1960 men expected women to clean the house and do the housework. 2. In 1960 It was a stereotype that women wore dresses daily. 3. In 1960 women barely got a break to do anything other than their job as a woman. 4. Due to the little choices of jobs for women in the 1960 it was hard for most families to carry money for the year. 5. Women were trying their best in 1960 by doing protests and marches but it seemed like they weren't getting anywhere. Sarah Williams 1. Women working in the house 24/7, cleaning clothes, picking up after kids if they have any, cleaning the kitchen and bed rooms, making the food, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 2. The women barely have the space to speak up about these issues because men already have so much power over them because it was as though their husbands "owned" them. 3. Women were mostly dressed in flowy long dresses. This made some men stop and stare in their direction. 4. Not knowing if the next day would be better or worse, the women could only live in the present time. 5. Men thought since the law said they "owned" us they thought that meant they told us what to do. 6. Woman never got to decide where their life was going to go next, the men stated they needed to stay home and do the housework never to have the right to go live their life to the fullest. ART
The art portion of my project stood for many people during this time. The LGBTQ, woman, people of color and students that didn't have th rights they deserve. The poster was a picture I found off the internet and it caught my eye. The woman standing on the right stands for a woman, a woman of color and a student. The finger prints at the top stand for people in the LGBTQ community. The power all together is a sign of everyone deserving the same rights and respect. |
ELA
For my ELA portion of my project I choose to go with poems. I have a journal that holds the poems. The poems were about women's rights in the 1960-70. These poems were free written like they were in the eyes of the women during this time. These woman were made-up names that were based off of the ways other women had to live. Sarah Williams had the chance to become a teacher and live with less rules. Gloria Florence had a more stricked life and had little to no free time. Gloria Florence
"You mean less," Everyday waking up I stress Males complain the house is a “mess” Women like me, can’t be anything but depressed Only being expected to wear a dress To impress those men as if I care They walk by me and only stop to stare I then go home having no break to breathe stale air The stove’s going and I can only bear This unfair life of slaving away We barely have money to pay Money is a struggle for us in this day Having kids is only a worry they don't get in trouble Cleaning the house feels as if im stuck in a bubble I have no rights its 1960 and these issues are about to doubleMy life seems like its on the edge and about to crumble Making a big change is where women need to end up My bodying aching with pain breaking the strain Women need to make a change Sarah Williams
“Clean my shirts” Never ending pain that hurts Never having a break Living this life makes me think being a woman is a mistake “Mom you have to bake” Kids even tell me what to do “ for goodness sake” Having no rights makes me think At the end of the day all I can do is sit and blink Slaving away in this time was like a trend There was no way around this lifestyle no way to “bend” The only expression on my face is a frown Being in a dress is how everyone looks at women in town This world only makes women stress Woman always being assumed to be working their best Men thinking they have the rights to make us get undressed “You follow my rules without being depressed” Never a true love us women can get My family, friends, and society are the ones who make bets On wether i can live to my fullest extent. The thoughts in their heads leave me shaken, But thats just normal for me all because im a women in 1960. |
